Palace Group Awards

Palace Group companies have in the past been awarded for excellence and empowerment. One of our subsidiaries, for example, Palace Consulting Engineers received a PMR Bronze award for excellence in Electrical Engineering as well as combined Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 2007. Palace Technologies was listed amongst the top 300 empowered companies by Impumelelo. In recent times, an employee was awarded to participate in the World Green Building Council.

Palace Group's CSR policy focuses on six distinct areas through which we implement our socio-economic development projects.

In support of this policy, the Group has supported a women soccer team, Palace Super Falcons that has received national accolades in South Africa. The aim is to position women soccer as one of the drivers for social change within local communities. Palace Group has supported the establishment of a community enterprise in a form of a bakery that is geared towards providing income to parents and guardians of the children in an OVC centre located in Alexandra, Jhb. The income would also provide long term means to sustain the OVC centre, to move away from the donor support mentality.

In support of infrastructure development in schools, we have committed to the design of an energy efficient multi-media centre in a good performing school in Jhb. These are some of the ongoing community projects that the Group is committed to as part of its policy.

Palace Group, through our subsidiary companies, is a member of the following affiliations:

- Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA)
- Association of Municipal Electricity Undertakings (AMEU)
- Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE)
- South African Black Technical & Allied Careers Organisation (SABTACO)

Palace Group's empowerment focus is in the areas of socio-economic development, employment equity, enterprise development, preferential procurement, skills development and equity ownership. We continue to aim to increase the participation of black individuals, especially women, and black owned companies as suppliers, employees and the communities with which we engage and do business. Our focus is to improve our efforts to achieve good ratings across the entire spectrum of empowerment landscape.
At present, two of our subsidiary holding companies achieved a level three and four respectively in BBBEE rating for the past year in review.

Ambient Monitoring and Health Impact Study of Atmospheric Contaminants in Richards Bay

28 Nov 2011

Air pollution is a problem that affects most cities throughout the world and is as thus not unique to South Africa. As industrialization expands within a city so does the population, the number of vehicles and the potential for diminishing air quality. Many cities are experiencing incidents of poor visibility due to increased levels of pollution, particularly during stable atmospheric conditions. Not only is air pollution visually unpleasant but it is also a health hazard for people living in metropolitan centres.

Grinpal Energy, a Palace Group owned subsidiary, is continuing to address the energy needs of municipalities across South Africa with the installations of the advanced smart meters.

23 Aug 2011

Advanced Smart Meters are continuing to change the dynamics of electricity metering across many municipalities in South Africa. Smart Meters now form a critical component in the fight to save electricity and are also heeding the call for a greener environment through clever usage of electricity.
