Hatch provides continuous community support through a number of activities, including: donations to various educational institutions; fundraising for global charities; and providing support to student programs and activities, which are focused on math, science and technology fields.
Within South Africa, Hatch is involved in an ongoing large-scale sponsorship of African Academy - an educational institute for draughts people aimed at the previously disadvantaged. In total, Hatch has contributed R2-million to African Academy, with a recent R1-million grant enabling the school to build a new wing at its Boksburg premises. The grant has ultimately allowed for an additional intake of up to 400 students per year.
Furthermore, Hatch has been supporting the social benefit organisation Siyakhula Education Foundation's IkamvaYouth initiative for the last two years through an annual donation. The initiative, which is based in Ivory Park, Johannesburg, targets township school learners between grades 10-12 and offers them supplementary tutoring, career guidance and mentoring, e-literacy training, life-skills development and creative expression programmes.

Hatch understands the environmental and social issues involved with projects within the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors. Our Environmental Services Group (ESG) provides innovative solution-based services related to sustainability; environmental issues and processes; social-and-community interaction; and carbon-management issues and initiatives. ESG works with both internal and client project teams to integrate environmental and social issues into projects in which Hatch is engaged.

Hatch achieved a Level 3 Contributor BBBEE status and a 100% BEE Procurement Recognition Level. Hatch's Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) status has been assessed and verified by the National Empowerment Rating Agency (NERA), a rating agency accredited by the South African National accreditation System (SANAS), based on the BBBEE Codes of Good Practice.

A newly-designed cart developed by Hatch Africa will ensure optimum comfort for horses and increased business opportunities for coal-yard owners.
22 March, 2011: Township coal-cart horses and their owners will have a load taken off their shoulders, as well as a new lease on life, thanks to a generous donation and an innovative cart design from Hatch Africa - an industry leader in engineering, project and construction management services, process and business consulting and operational services to the mining, metallurgical, energy and infrastructure industries.
Sishen South Project Rail Area – 1-million man-hours LTI free

30 November, 2010: A major milestone towards Hatch Africa's vision of ‘No Harm' has been achieved on the rail area of the Sishen South Project at Kumba Iron Ore's Kolomela Mine in Postmasburg. On 26 October 2010, 1 000 000 Lost Time Injury (LTI) free man-hours was reached.

Leading EPCM firm, Hatch Africa looks set to complete its role in one of Anglo American's major expansion projects earlier than scheduled, and below budget. The Sishen South project to establish the new Kolomela iron ore mine south of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape will increase export capacity at local subsidiary Kumba Iron Ore by about 9Mtpa.
