About Us

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is the organisation mandated to be responsible for South Africa's Biodiversity This includes leading biodiversity research, championing biodiversity information management and planning. SANBI is also the proud custodian of the nine National Botanical Gardens. Through its biodiversity knowledge and information management team, SANBI recently launched the Biodiversity Advisor as part of its 2010 International Year of Biodiversity celebrations. The Advisor is an electronic gateway to a comprehensive collection of biodiversity information resources and tools.

SANBI offers a host of cost and time saving benefits for those requiring information regarding the distribution of species and other biodiversity data for any specified area within South Africa's borders. In so doing, the Advisor supports academics, conservationists, developers, planners and investors in making informed and environmentally responsible decisions.
