Promethium Carbon

Who We Are

Climate change is impacting on the global business environment. Business is increasingly operating in uncharted territory. Important issues of yesterday disappear, and new issues become more prominent. What was an idea for environmentalists five years ago, grew to an issue for the sustainability teams two years ago, and has now become a strategic imperative to remain competitive in the low carbon economy.

Promethium Carbon is a specialist advisor of carbon issues in business. Our services include carbon footprinting, reporting, carbon credit project registration and carbon strategy integration.

With a dedicated team of technical professionals we have experience ranging from the carbon intensive industries such as mining, metallurgy and fossil fuel energy to the low carbon services or export industries.

Each business must follow its journey towards the low carbon economy. We assist our clients in this journey to position themselves in the low carbon economy by:

• capitalizing on the carbon opportunities in their sector,
• mitigating their carbon risks such as tax, competitiveness and reputation,
• identifying cost saving emission reduction projects, and
• turning qualifying emission reduction projects into a carbon revenue stream

Promethium has offset its 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 carbon footprints by collaborating with Earth Patrol in a Voluntary Emission Reduction (VER) generating project. The project occurred at the Klein Helderkruin retirement village in the West of Johannesburg in September 2009, see photo below. 562 energy inefficient incandescent lamps were replaced with compact fluorescent lamps. 329 VERs were generated from the project. 60 of the Earth Patrol VERs were used to offset the Promethium footprint of 59.3 tons CO2e for the 2008-2009 financial year, and 81 VERs were used to offset the footprint of 80.6 tons CO2 for the 2009-2010 financial year.

Promethium has offset its 2007-2008 carbon footprint by installing a 300L solar geyser on a home for street children in Brixton; the Turning Point Home, see photo below. The solar geyser was installed at the end of 2008 in order to offset our carbon footprint of 37 tons CO2e for the 2007-2008 financial year.
