We at Village Ridge acknowledge that although we provide an executive environment to our guests, we do not need to do so with disregard to the environment. As we only have one mother earth, we have implemented several measures to actively reduce our impact on the environment.

Measures taken can be summarised as follows:

• Care has been taken in the design of the hotel to maximize the use of the historical building structures which resulted in reduced use of new resources.

• Facilities have been carefully planned around the large trees scattered on the estate, further minimizing the effect on birds resident in the area.

• All existing flora has been maintained, at most being transplanted to other areas on the estate.

• Hedges and fences were erected using natural plants or by utilising alien vegetation that was to be eradicated.

• Rain water is being captured and utilised for gardening purposes.

• Electricity consumption in rooms is independently monitored and reported on with each guest being responsible for the costs pertaining such consumption to highlight such guest's impact on global warming. This information will provide the guest with an insight in electricity consumption patterns which he/she can use in other facets of daily life. To mitigate the cost of electricity to the guest, the hotel has made provision for complimentary daily minibar service on selected items.

• All standby generators are fuelled by bio-diesel produced from used sunflower cooking oil.

• All still mineral water is provided in glass bottles from a spring located on a Group farm. Glass bottles are recycled, greatly reducing the impact of plastic water containers on the environment.

• Energy efficient air-conditioning systems have been installed in all rooms.

• Preheating of hot water via solar water heaters is being performed in rooms where the structure allows for it.
