South African-based JSE Limited listed Aspen is a supplier of branded and generic pharmaceuticals in approximately 100 countries across the globe and of consumer and nutritional products in selected territories.
Aspen is represented in South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Dubai, Germany, Ireland, Mauritius, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. The Group has 18 manufacturing facilities at 13 sites on 6 continents.
Aspen has production capabilities for a wide variety of product types including tablets, capsules, steriles, injectables, oral contraceptives, nutritional products, lyophilised vials, cytotoxics, suppositories, vials, form-filled seals, liquids, semi-solids and specialist active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Aspen supports healthcare initiatives for the underprivileged in South Africa, with corporate social investment initiatives being focussed on supporting programs which target the delivery of primary healthcare in rural areas, HIV/AIDS and TB and healthcare education in South Africa. Close to 1 million patients in the South African private and public sectors currently rely on an Aspen ARV product daily. Aspen has also invested in the construction and financial support of eight primary healthcare clinics in the rural areas of South Africa. Aspen's CSI projects reach nearly 880 000 beneficiaries in South Africa.

Aspen has taken progressive steps towards ensuring compliance with the BBBEE Act (2003/2004), the BBBEE Codes and the Employment Equity Act. Aspen is a Level 3 AA-rated BBBEE company as per the independently verified 2011 Empowerdex assessment. In combination with its accreditation as a value-adding supplier, this rating enables Aspen's South African-based customers to claim 137.5% BBBEE preferential procurement credits for the full value of purchases made from Aspen.
Aspen has been a pioneer in implementing broad-based black ownership by concluding an empowerment deal with the Chemical, Energy, Paper and Allied Workers' Union in 2002 for the benefit of trade union members Aspen concluded a second empowerment transaction with a broad-based consortium, Imithi Investments (Pty) Ltd in 2005, comprising trade union, healthcare industry, and community development groups. As verified by Empowerdex, black employees comprise nearly 76% of Aspen's total employee base in South Africa. Some 55% of total employees in the Group are female.
