Who We Are

Background and History Sebenza Forwarding and Shipping (PTY) Ltd (SFS) started in 1997 as the first Black Empowered Clearing and Forwarding company in the industry. SFS is 55% owned by the Makana Investment Company, the trading arm of the Makana Trust and 45% by Bidvest, the JSE listed diversified group. The Makana Trust was formed at the request of Mr Nelson Mandela to look after the interests of more than 50 000 destitute and impoverished ex political prisoners and their families.

Our Vision SFS's vision is to be a leading South African freight forwarder competing internationally through global networks and strategic partnerships for the benefit of all stakeholders. This vision positions SFS firmly as a South African company with the internal resources and capabilities to compete internationally by developing and leveraging strategic partnerships and global network alliances.

BEE Status Sebenza Forwarding and Shipping (SFS) is South Africa's oldest, largest and one of the few truly Black owned companies in the Clearing and Forwarding Industry. We are a Level 2 Contributor affording our clients a 125% BEE Procurement Recognition Level. It is our strategic goal to achieve a Level 1 rating by our 2011 Financial Year End.
